Roofing Contractor Lau Construction

When I met Lau in 1992 he was new to business. He came here from China and started a Painting Company. Any time I hear some one complain about how they can never catch a break I think of Lau.Lau took me to lunch one day and asked me how business worked in the United States. He was matter of fact about it. I knew him to run a good business. He was inexpensive, but kept a crew of four working seven days a week. So I was surprised.

We talked through all the steps he had taken by other advice he had gotten. He had a license and insurance, but I explained what the bond was and where to get it. In other words, he had figured every thing out by asking questions.

We lost touch and a few years later he was putting on a roof for another agent on a listing of mine. We had lunch. His price was very inexpensive for the work he had done on my client’s house. He said that Real Estate agents want cheap, and he’s very right about that. We’ll talk about that issue in another post.

About a year later when I had recommended Lau to another client the bid was twice what the other bid was. He was paying back taxes on the advice of his accountant. The story gets better. Another couple of years and Lau has a new truck, a big one. He had also bought an apartment building that needed work. He added a second crew, and in the boom years Lau Construction became the person to talk with if you wanted the best work at the most reasonable price.

I was stuck on a project and I called Lau. He provided his guys to me at a reasonable cost and we finished a project in about two weeks. These guys did the work of a full crew every day. They completed the siding, trim, window packages, and doors. They did the roof. Just like that it was done. It was the best contracting experience i have had in the forty years I have been contracting labor.

So I just wanted to mention it, and remember, he came here with nothing.

About David Losh

In 1984 I got my Real Estate license and worked in a small company called Advance Properties. The owner was extremely interested in Real Estate, building, and land development. Most of his work was concentrated North of Seattle. Since the 1970s I had worked for Real Estate agents in Seattle as a contractor, mostly preparing properties for rent, and sale. After a few years my skill level increased considerably concerning land use, building code, and development practices. Escrow, and lending offices were housed at the Advance Properties building so it was easy to get involved in all aspects of Real Estate. It was very much a family owned, and operated business. Over the years my Real Estate license has been at a variety of Real Estate companies, and offices. Nothing compares to those early years, or that sense of family. Real Estate has gotten to be corporate owned. My hope with this blog is to share with you some of the things I've learned. If you have Real Estate needs, or want contractor help, I refer freely to what best suits you. If you should choose to work with me you'll find a great resource. My Real Estate license is at Skyline Properties in Northgate. Skyline is a locally owned company that is a desk fee office. There is a wide variety of diverse agents. It helps me with some of the other projects that I have, and mentoring that I do, to be able to work with people from other cultures. Here in Seattle we are close to Vancouver BC and are the gateway to China. Boeing has a great trade relationship with China, as does Microsoft have with all of Asia. We are a culturally diverse community, and it helps me to be invlolved.

  2. Ryan Green says:

    the best roofing is either ceramic or metal roofing.,;

  3. i always use metal roofing because it is more durable compared to other types of rooing`,.

  4. when it comes to roofing, the best type is still metal roofs but they are not that aesthetically pleasing compared to ceramic r~*`

  5. metal roofings should be the best, they are sturdy and can be replaced easily -”‘
