John L Scott, Cutting Edge, Again

It’s hard to explain the Real Estate Industry to any one. I compared it to a circus a few weeks ago, in another blog. The world of Real Estate is a set of very small communities, spread out, around the world. There is fun, excitement, fear, and despair. It’s a high risk gamble that you need expert advice for. The problem is getting that advice, because there are so very few people who make it in the industry.

One of the most vocal people, who we call a booster, is Lennox Scott. Without Lennox, and his input, I don’t know where we would be. Lennox made the search for real time properties, online, a reality that is copied, yet never improved on.

When there was a down turn in the economy, while other Brokerages were putting on a brave face, John L Scott changed, quietly, with a “mobile” office, business model.

Fee structure is getting to be a hot item with Real Estate Brokerages. When I was writing this post back in August it looked like there would be a shift in how the mobile office would become a desk fee. At that time it was looking like both Coldwell Banker and John L. Scott were going to the “home alone” desk fee with a high transaction fee. That never happened at either Brokerage.

John L. Scott did regroup by cutting an office here in North Seattle, and moving into a new University Village location. I’ll do an up date post about how Brokerages are fairing this year in a few weeks.

About David Losh

In 1984 I got my Real Estate license and worked in a small company called Advance Properties. The owner was extremely interested in Real Estate, building, and land development. Most of his work was concentrated North of Seattle. Since the 1970s I had worked for Real Estate agents in Seattle as a contractor, mostly preparing properties for rent, and sale. After a few years my skill level increased considerably concerning land use, building code, and development practices. Escrow, and lending offices were housed at the Advance Properties building so it was easy to get involved in all aspects of Real Estate. It was very much a family owned, and operated business. Over the years my Real Estate license has been at a variety of Real Estate companies, and offices. Nothing compares to those early years, or that sense of family. Real Estate has gotten to be corporate owned. My hope with this blog is to share with you some of the things I've learned. If you have Real Estate needs, or want contractor help, I refer freely to what best suits you. If you should choose to work with me you'll find a great resource. My Real Estate license is at Skyline Properties in Northgate. Skyline is a locally owned company that is a desk fee office. There is a wide variety of diverse agents. It helps me with some of the other projects that I have, and mentoring that I do, to be able to work with people from other cultures. Here in Seattle we are close to Vancouver BC and are the gateway to China. Boeing has a great trade relationship with China, as does Microsoft have with all of Asia. We are a culturally diverse community, and it helps me to be invlolved.

Well, yes, thank you for pointing this out to me. The post was waiting for a confirmation before I finished it.

It was supposed to be about a new Brokerage business model where an agent can hang a license for a lower monthly fee and have a higher cost per transaction. No one confirm it so I forgot about post. Sorry.
